TriumphX, a developer of a cross-chain-based decentralized NFT platform, announced that it will release the first NFT series of the veteran artist BESISI, who is actively working in Korea and Japan.
Artist BESISI graduated from Sungkyunkwan University, Department of Art Education, and then went on to Musashino Art University and graduate school in Japan, and then completed a doctoral course at Kyoto City University of Arts. Since then, the artist has been working internationally for more than 20 years, including Japan and Korea, the UK and India, as well as Japan and Korea, starting with her first solo exhibition ‘Paintings of Master White’ in 2004, based in Kyoto.
In 2005 and 2008, it was selected and exhibited in “The Prospect of Contemporary Art – Artists of a New Plan” at the Mori Art Museum in Japan. In 2015, the Daejeon Cultural Foundation’s regional research project presented photographs and video works on the modern history of Korea and Japan. In addition, she was selected as one of the 12 artists of the 2019 international photo art festival ‘Kyoto Graphic KG+’ and received favorable reviews for her work reinterpreting the stories of Japanese people who were born and raised in colonial Joseon. Artist BESISI was the only Korean artist among the 12 artists.
The first NFT series presented by BESISI through TriumphX is “Thread Series”. These are composed of the artist’s unpublished works and are the basis of the artist’s recent work activities.
‘Thread’ is one of the main materials of BESISI’s works. The intricately intertwined threads are a metaphor for the complex history of both Koreas and Japan, and at the same time a reflection of the fierce lives and relationships of individuals who had to live in the space of the times. The artist intends to unravel the discourse of ‘relationship’, which cannot be easily brought out in the current situation of the two countries, which are in sharp contrast, using works of art as a medium and metaphors of knots.
BESISI’s NFT series, “Thread Series,” will be presented first through ENFTEE. It will also be available on the marketplaces Sole-X and OpenSea.
